These are mostly questions that frequently have been asked by mac users about iWork's word processor Pages for MacOS X in Apple's support forums. Even though the blog's focus is Pages, many entries apply to Numbers and Keynote as well. To find an answer use the search field above.

How do I change the default font?
If you are not happy with the default font in Pages' templates, you can correct it by changing the styles in the template and saving it. Then go to Preferences and select the changed template as default for new documents.

That's an awesome tip. Been trying to figure it out. A quick search on google, a quick read on your post and voila, an answer I've been looking for. Thanks!
There is a simple way that, for some odd reason, most dismiss, but I figured it out with a few minutes of playing around. Open Pages and press the Styles button (the little backwards P near the top left). A drawer comes out with all the styles. A whole myriad of defaults are present for a single template. To change any one of them, simply click on it, then make your changes via the toolbars or the Inspector, then press on the newly-formed red arrow beside the style when you're done, and tell it to Redefine Style From Selection. When you're done with all style changes you want, go to File, and say Save as Template... and call it "Blank". Save it wherever for now, even your Desktop. then browse in Finder to the Pages program (Pages.app), right click and select Show Package Contents. Browse down to Pages.app>Contents>Resources>Templates>Blank and move your new blank template into that folder. Finder will ask you if you want to replace the original—if you need to backup the original, you may elsewhere—and you tell it to replace it. Next time you open up Pages, within the Template Browser, your template will have replaced the old Blank, default template. Hope this helps
Well, yes... That's more or less how it is done. However, note that if you replace Pages' own "Blank" template, Pages will lose certain functions, such as the names of styles and encodings used with other languages than English.
It is safer to keep the new template outside Pages, and choose it in Pages > Preferences > General Preferences > For New Documents....
Magnus' tip works like a charm - but you have to Save As A Template, then in Preferences choose My Templates (bottom of left column) and choose your new template from that list.
Another method that builds on the previous examples which is far easier I beleive is to first make the document style you like then select File > Save as Template.
Pages 09 automatically directs the user to the Template directory within the iWork directory so there is no need for any copying and pasting of templates or storing them somewhere else.
The final part includes selecting Preferences and under the first heading For New Documentes select Use Template and then select the choose button and select the template within the Template directory and its all done!
None of these tips seem to work for Pages on an iPad. Each time I start a new document I have to change the default font from Helvetica to something else. I would much rather change the font on the template, but there does not seem to be a way to do that.

Ira, you are right about Pages for iPad. Even though it has some great features, it is also very limited in many ways.
Personally, I use it mostly as a text editor and correct the formatting on my Mac afterwards.
